In its most recent edition, The Globe and Mail ranked “fat fiction” as one of the “most beautiful” genres of fiction and described the genre as “a rich and sometimes complex mix of myth and fantasy.”

In its 2016 annual report, the Canadian Film Institute ranked “the genre” among its Top 100 Films of All Time, saying that “fat” and “fantastic” are among its five “trends.”

Fiction in Canada has become so big, in fact, that the film industry in general is growing.

According to Statistics Canada, the number of films in the top 10 films of all time has risen from four in 2012 to seven in 2017.

In 2017, “fat film” accounted for over 20% of the top ten films of Canada, including two films in Canada’s top five.
